There is a very prominent river in Colorado that starts in the mountains west of Estes Park. It is called the Thompson. In Estes Park, there are many trail rides set up for visitors and locals alike. The Thompson has had a history of great floods. They come down out of the high mountains, through Estes Park and down into Loveland Colorado, then across the plains past I25.  Here is one of the high crossings available to trail rides across the Thompson.
